Latest Crows tidbits

There’s been a couple of little developments within the club in the last few days that I thought were worth a mention. I’ll start with the most recent.

Neil Craig has said there is ‘no room for complacency’ against Richmond tomorrow night. He also said that there is ‘no guarantee we’ll make the eight’ and I think that’s a fair comment. Regular readers of this blog will note that I mentioned before the Sydney game that the Crows really need to make the most of the Swans, Tigers and Dockers games as the upcoming draw wasn’t so friendly. There’s a hint of arrogance in the choice to select McKernan and Sellar. So I think Neil Craig is doing the right thing by saying his side needs to be aware that if they don’t bring their A game then Richmond are a pretty good chance at the win.

Young players aren’t the only ones lining up for their first game of the season though. Brett Burton will play in his first SANFL match for the year after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament last season. The Birdman has stated he’s keen to play a full gameĀ  for Woodville-West Torrens and Neil Craig thinks he’s in great shape to do that. A week or two of injury free football and Burton could be available to come back into the Crows team. Let’s hope it all goes well for him. At 31 it would be risky to offer him a new contract if gets any more injuries this season. The other side of the coin is that the Crows really need his experience.

Taylor Walker will also be back in the SANFL this weekend after being dropped. That didn’t stop him, along with a number of other Crows, from earning a new contract. Bernie Vince, Andy Otten, Scott Stevens, Myke Cook and Tony Armstrong have all inked new deals to stay with the Crows. It’s great incentive for the young players to be given contract extensions at this stage of the year. It shows they are doing the right things and will be rewarded for doing so. The final player to sign a new deal for the next two years is Graham Johncock. He’s been an amazing player for the Crows and I’m so pleased to see things are back on track for him both on and off the field.

Well that’s all from me this evening. I’m really looking forward to the Tigers match. I’m particularly looking forward to seeing McKernan and Sellar in action. But most of all, I’m looking forward to titling my next blog ‘Six in a row for the Adelaide Crows!’
